Parent Code of Conduct | Oakville United FC

Parent Code of Conduct

At Oakville United FC, we believe that parents play an essential role in shaping a child’s soccer experience. Our Parent Code of Conduct is designed to promote sportsmanship, respect, and enjoyment for every player, coach, and family involved with our club.

We ask that all parents support their child’s growth by fostering a positive attitude and trusting our coaching team to guide their development both on and off the field.

Communication and Attendance

Parents should ensure they and their child are aware of practice times, game schedules, and location updates. These are shared by email and occasionally posted on the club website. For any clarifications, please contact your coach directly.

Family members are always welcome to attend matches and open training sessions. If you need to speak with a coach, please do so before or after training, never during practices or games.

Guidelines for Parents

  • Encourage, don’t pressure. Let your child enjoy soccer at their own pace. Support effort, improvement, and fun — not just results.
  • Be positive, win or lose. Ask questions like “Did you enjoy it?” or “What did you learn today?” to keep the focus on growth and enjoyment.
  • Avoid sideline coaching. Allow coaches to guide the players. Extra instructions from parents can confuse and distract children.
  • Show respect at all times. Treat players, coaches, officials, and other parents with courtesy. Negative comments or confrontations have no place at the field.
  • Trust your child’s coach. If you have concerns, speak privately and respectfully after a session. Avoid criticizing the coach in front of your child.
  • Respect the referees. Officials are an important part of the game. Model good sportsmanship by accepting their decisions calmly.
  • Support emotional well-being. It’s normal for players to feel nervous or disappointed at times — offer encouragement and reassurance.
